How does physx work with an ati card

This is true of every game you will make in Unity. Also as an aside, I feel that it's pointless for Unity to include PhysX if it's not going to allow GPU support, as GPU support is currently the only thing that makes PhysX a better solution than similar solutions such as Bullet and others.

That being said, I understand a lot of gamers have ATI cards, but just as many have an Nvidia card and it would be nice if for those of us who have one, we could at least provide the option for ourselves and players to have enhanced PhysX simulations.

Right now, it's not feasible to include things like cloth in a finished game unless it's the size of a few sheets of paper because of it being on the back of our processors.

And it's part of why I shake my head when people say "Hey, let's ask for fluid PhysX! So, in lamen's terms Built-in support for Nvidia's formerly Ageia's PhysX physics engine,[18] version 2.

What does this mean to people that are starting from square one i. Will it make a difference at any level whether we use an nVidia or ATi card? Anyway, as I said in my answer, physics is totally software-based, the GPU is irrelevant. Physics is totally software-based, including on nVidia cards VivekSridhar : I don't know what you mean by "without PhysX". There isn't any "without PhysX"; Unity is the same on all graphics cards.

I believe there were also drivers that let you use an ati primary card with a dedicated nvidia card for physx, but I've never tried those. CPU physx, that is implemented on many games. Calculations are made by the cpu, obviously, and not the gpu. GPU physx is property of nvidia, and can be used only with nvidia cards. Planeside2, Batman, Mirror's edge and warframe use gpu physx.

Cards from other companies don't like playing with each other. But with physx in mind, if there is a proper interface and the game is fine with it, that might work Also, maybe I missed it in a patch, but has the graphic for firestorm been changed or did something break? It now is more of a ring than a "blast" that was this big swirling conflagration in physx which also messed up big time with bloom on.

Ageia was bought by nVidia. Ati sucks balls, get a Nvidia you'll thank me. Because of some nvidia blah blah, you'll need specific drivers and special patches to get this running. Unfortunately, my old nVidia cannot handle the latest heights of PhysX goodness and a new Ti is to pricey for me.

The above system works very well. But as I mentioned before full PhysX in Borderlands was to much for my old , so I am no longer running a Hybrid system. Physx is property of Nvidia.

AMD does not actively support them. Most quad core processors from intel should be able to easily do Physx. They're currently pushing out some of the better graphic cards per pound on the market. Nvidia has the better hardware, if you're willing to pay above and beyond for it Titan, yeah I went there. With my current setup I can run every game in my library without any hassle whatsoever.

No special fixes, etc. Never, personally, had any issues with CrossFireX on my old setup either other than waiting for the odd driver update or CAP. The only real problems AMD mainly have is delivery of their drivers though with the company reshuffle and their new system they have admittedly delivered better driver updates , and lacklustre CPU hardware they really do need to start pushing out better CPU's for the money at their high end but let's be honest here, Nvidia have had their fair share of driver issues in the past also.

No one can tell you what's best for you, or force you to buy something you're not interested in for whatever reason but if you're going to post your disdain for a company at least do it in a more constructive manner, with some logical reasoning, rather than "zomg ATI is teh suxor".

It just makes you sound childish and unintelligent. Personally, however, I think Physx is an unnecessary gimmick used to push Nvidia graphics card sales. It's not, in my opinion, worth the time to implement neither is it worth running out and buying a Nvidia card over either. You need to be a member in order to leave a comment.
