I started in middle school as a sixth grade teacher. Compared to 7th and 6th grade I actually found 8th grade to be easier overall.
Sophomore year is no time to lay back and relax, its a time to buckle down and get ready for what's to come. There is a constant battle of which grade in high school is harder. Personally, I believe Junior year is the hardest.
Junior year is the first year where students start to take more than one AP class. Yet, is eighth-grade really that different than ninth? The answer is yes, but not in the way one might think. The stereotype is that high school means a lot of homework, but I have found there is less. The parent's role is to be patient and set good boundaries.
My year-old daughter just started sixth grade this year. She has always made A's, B's, and an occasional C before this year. I've been very involved with the school and helped her with homework assignments. This year she is failing several subjects, she resents my questions regarding school, and she doesn't seek or seem to want my help with homework.
I have had two meetings so far with her teachers and they all agree that she is capable of the work, but she's not putting forth much effort.
We have all but eliminated TV, the computer, and the telephone. You could fail every other class and still pass to the next grade. At that time science was not considered a core subject so, yes, you could fail it and still pass to the next grade. This means that receiving a fail or F gives you a zero. Yet, the class is still included when you divide by your total number of courses taken. The failure will end up on your college transcripts and could hurt your chances of getting into graduate school or graduating when you originally planned to.
If the course was not a required course, you can choose to let the grade stand, but it will continue to affect your GPA. Generally speaking, no. To sum it up, one or two bad semesters do not ruin your chances. If you have more bad semesters than that, the road only gets tougher but it is still possible.
Nevertheless, a 3.
